    Dr. Harold âHarryâ Orville

    Dr. Harold “Harry” Orville

    June, 9 2011

One of the first people I met when I moved to Rapid City and joined League of Women Voters was Laura Orville, one of the finest women ever. Harry had good taste! Through the ensuing years I had little contact with the two of you, but when I did I was always struck by your gentility and enthusiasm. My thoughts are with you, Laura, and your family, as you adjust~

Harry Orville was a wonderful friend and when my husband Jim Patterson and I came back to Rapid City after 16 years away he welcomed us back to a small circle of friends that is almost like family since we knew each other for such a long time. Jim tells me that Harry inspired him to be more kind and gentle. Harry surely is the gentleman we all like to have as a friend.

Harry was such a wonderful, kind, generous, thoughtful person. I am glad I got the chance to work with him each year with with the golf tournament at the School of Mines, a tournament that was his idea. He will be missed.

Lauar and family, Harrys passing is a sad event. Dr. Orville was the iconic model of a Gentleman and a Scholar. He created an environment that made it possible for me to write a Masters Thesis during a difficult time in my life. He truly will be missed by all.

My condolences to Harry's family. I worked with Harry during the formative period of COMET. He was a wonderful person to work with and will be enormously missed. Harry also worked closely with the Department of Atmospheric Science at CSU when we had a cooperative PhD degree program with SDSMT. We appreciate all that he did in connection with that program.
