James M. “Jim” Hall
James M. “Jim” Hall, 80, passed peacefully on July 7, 2012 at Hospice of the Hills. Jim was born in Sioux Falls on July 20, 1931, SD to Ray and Inez Hall. He married Jean Robinson and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on April 16, 2012. They were blessed with 2 children Robin and David. Jim served proudly in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force for 26 years. Jim and Jean and the kids traveled the world in his years in the Air Force including the Philippine Islands. He returned to South Dakota and retired from the Air Force at Ellsworth AFB. He then went to work for Metropolitan Life and for many years enjoyed helping young families with their insurance needs. He was a kind and generous man. Jim was a huge supporter of Post 22 and Midget Football. He was the equipment manager for Midget Football at its inception and kept and cleaned all the equipment in his basement for many years. He enjoyed sending newspaper clippings to Post 22 kids that were in the newspaper with a personal congratulations note. He was a member of American Legion Post 22, TREA, Elks Lodge #1187 and the DAV. Jim and Jean have been members of South Canyon Lutheran Church since moving to Rapid City. He enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, saying often “he missed a hole in one by just two strokes”. Jim and Jean have 3 grandchildren Conner, Evan, Brody and one bonus grandson, Michael, and 2 bonus great grandchildren, Murielle and Mason. A memorial has been set up with Hospice of the Hills which gave him warm and loving care. Jim is survived by his wife Jean, his daughter, Robin Sutton (Brett), Rapid City, his son David Hall (Jane), Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his brother Doug Hall, Tigard, OR He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Hall and his sister, Beverly Wilk. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Monday, July 9, 2012 at Edstrom & Rooks Funeral Service, Serenity Springs Tranquility Chapel in Rapid City. A funeral service will be held 10:00am, Tuesday, July 10 at South Canyon Lutheran Church with Bruce Thalacker officiating. Internment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.
